One of the main points of this blog is to enable a dialogue between our five colleagues in the field and you, readers of this blog. Hence the comments.
The thing is, we want to have relevant comments. "Hello, nice going!" is a relevant comment; ads for "little blue helper" pills, dating services or bootleg software are not. Hence the registration.
Yes, you need to register to comment. Sorry about the nuisance, but it's about the only way to keep the spam to a minimum.
